Flashback on the World Carving Session last season

The Big Smile – the god of sun and snow smiles upon the WCS Europe 2010 in Silvretta Montafon.

Premiere for the World Carving Session Europe (WCS) 2010 in Slivretta Montafon. Stunning weather and incredible conditions bring huge smiles to the faces of the hardboot-snowboard scene.

The WCS Europe took place in Silvretta Montafon for the first time. The hardboot-snowboard scene met in the snowsure area Silvretta Montafon in the Montafon valley (Austria) for their annual European get together. Carver, racer, soulboarder – simply everyone with a passion for the sport was there. 200 hardboot riders from all over Europe and the USA met over three days to ride, talk shop and party together! A highlight for the passionate carvers were the various clinics to improve technical ability in all fields. Different kind of boarders need different kind of instruction: Fans of narrow boards loved the clinics of Lothar and Carve Master Ben while racers got excellent technique tips from four times world champion Ursula Bruhin. Jörg Egli, the carving legend from Switzerland, brought his own surflike Pure Boarding style to a fascinated crowd. Participants had a lot of fun during the Limbo contest, where riders had to pass beneath a Limbo bar with a very low carve! An extremely precise and clean technique was needed to succeed.

A great bonus for all hardboot riders were the various exhibitors presenting the latest technolgy in board and binding development. These were available for tests, an opportunity most riders did not want to miss! Goltes, Virus, Oxcess and Pure Boarding boards were much in demand, as well as Jack-Up – a special plate that raises stance and allows for increased pressure on the edge. The success of the event was largely made possible by the fantastic support of the Silvretta Montafon ski area, who welcomed the WCS Europe with open arms. The World Carving Session would like to express their gratitude at this point. Participants of the event were extremely impressed with the area. Simon Theissen, head organizer of the WCS Europe, said: “We would be pleased to be guests of Silvretta Montafon again in the future. We can’t imagine a more perfect place: right in the middle of Europe, easily accessible for everyone, a fantastic resort with excellent slopes – wonderful. Thank you, Silvretta Montafon!” With these words he expressed the feelings of all carvers present. A perfect place, a perfectly organized event and picture perfect weather brought smiles and unforgettable memories to all. Short movie about the WCS 2010: vimeo.com/10188123
