WCS Flashback 2012

WCS Europe 2012 in Silvretta Montafon - simply brilliant - Awesome

Silvretta Nova hosted the World Carving Session 2012 for the third time. Excellent snow conditions - including rather icy mornings as well as soft pistes in the afternoon - paired with awesome weather welcomed about 200 hardbootcarvers and provided a prefect framework to satisfy all needs from material testing to talk shopping and small talk.

The World Carving Session aims to address everyone who loves the fascinating sport of Hard Boot Snowboarding. About 200 carvers, soulboarders and racers from Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Slovenia and Czech Republic arrived at this year's get-together in the snow-sure resort of Silvretta Montafon from March 16 to 18, 2012 sharing one intention: talk shopping, snowboarding on excellent pistes, networking and partying.

Once again, numerous exhibitors contributed significantly to the repeated success of the World Carving Session by providing service and testing material with high effort. The opportunity to test material from boards to boots is very attractive to all members of the hardboot scene, since the World Carving Session is one of only a few events each year, where special hard boot equipment can be tested. This year, the greatly demanded manufacturers of snowboards Goltes, Kessler, Oxess, Plasma, Pure Boarding, Sense and Virus kindly allowed for diverse testing ossibilities. Furthermore, Carve Company presented its bindings and the new series of snowboard suits, which has been specifically developed for the needs and stresses of hard boot snowboarding. Carvers Paradise satisfied with a fraction of its immense assortment of equipment for hard boot snowboarders every need beyond snowboards. Altogether a big variety of equipment was presented, which allowed for high quality testing and first hand comparison of material. Furthermore, Ernst Egli provided beside his Jack-Up (elevated standing on the snowboard) an excellent service for everyone's snowboard edges, which earned him many compliments - especially after a ride on the icy pistes in the mornings.

A highlight for the passionate carvers was surely the offer of various clinics to improve the own technical know-how, since each snowboard type demands for its own technique and teaching. Freecarvers could satisfy their thirst for knowledge in clinics of Lothar and Carve Master Ben, while Ursula Bruhin - quadruple world champion - exclusively provided approved tips for the perfect racing technique. Jörg Egli - the carving-legend from Switzerland - and his team enthusiastically taught the unique Pure Boarding technique, which reminds of wave surfing and enjoys increasing popularity.

The "Tough Guy/Girl Contest" was a lot of fun for all competitors. In this fun-event the carver, who could ride the longest (time) lay down carve was determined. In the girls' section the only 14-years old Nadja finished third and showed the experienced carving ladies what and who is to be expected in future. Congratulations to all participants! Many thanks to all sponsors of non-cash prizes who made it possible that each participant could take home a nice and useful memory.

The cheerful spirit among all participants induced many carvers to affirm Simon Theissen, head of event, the World Carving Session 2012 to be a "brilliant event".

Overall, a bombastic event, which was not least rendered possible by the kind support of the skiing area Silvretta Montafon, which has taken the WCS into its permanent calendar of events. The WCS and all participants want to thank Silvretta Montafon sincerely at this point! All carvers were stoked of the region - a perfect place in the middle of Europe and thus within good reach for everyone. All carvers went home with unforgettable memories - and are already looking forward to another brilliant event next year.
