WCS FLASHBACK 2011

WCS Europe 2011 Silvretta Montafon - a successful remake with a very lively harboot-carving-scene.

The World Carving Session 2011 took place for the second time in Silvretta Montafon. A stunning Sunday with blue skies and excellent snow conditions has everyone looking forward to next years event - after the WCS is before the WCS!

The harboot-snowboard-scene met once again in the snow sure area Sivretta Montafon (Austria) for their annual European get together. More than 200 carvers, racers, soulboarders and simply everyone who loves the sport were there from the 18. to 20. March 2011. Hardboot riders from all over Europe, including Switzerland, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, France, Slowenia, England and the Czech Republic gathered over three days to exchange ideas, ride together and party. Highlights for passionate carvers included various clinics to improve technique and skill. Different types of riders need different kinds of tuition - fans of narrow boards got valuable tips in the clinics of carve master Ben and Lothar, while racers had a chance to test their ability with four times world champion Ursula Bruhin. Jörg Egli, carving legend from Switzerland, had people riding the unique Pure Boarding style, which incorporates elements from surfing.

A lot of fun was had during the fun-ollie contest. The challenge was to jump as high as possible without throwing the pole. Youngster Stefan Spaargaren won the competition with a hight of 40 cm, only just missing the 50 cm by touching with the tail - congratulations! Especially exciting for the hardboot-scene are the manufacturers, who were once again providing plenty of demo material: Kessler, Plasma, Oxess, Goltes, Radical, Virus and Pure Boarding snowboards were creating large variety for the demos. Zora Marketing was presenting the Jack-Up tuning tool, Carve Company provided bindings and recently developed clothing for carvers, while Carvers Paradise brought along a fraction of their huge stock for the hardboot riders to try on the slopes. All in all there was fantastic choice, allowing for excellent testing and making it possible to directly compare different products in great conditions. Once again, the WCS proved to be a huge success, made possible by the support from the snowsport region Silvretta Montafon, who have made the WCS into a fixed part of their event calendar. The World Carving Session would like to thank them very much at this point. Participants of the event were extremely impressed with the entire region. As Simon Theissen, WCS head of event, said: "We love this place! Right in the middle of Europe, very accessible for everyone, it is a fantastic and snow sure ski area. Thank you so much. We feel truly at home here." With these words he expressed the feelings of all the harboot riders present. A perfect location, a well organised event and dream weather had carvers leave with unforgettable memories.
